We hear talk all the time about keeping the kids of the road. I’m not referring to youngsters walking, but the 17 year olds who are embarking on their driving tuition. If, like me you live out of a major city, then your own transport is a necessity. The nearest cinema is 20 minutes away, and most of that is on a motorway. Busses run in to the town during the day time, but come to the evening, no transport means going nowhere fast. So I keep hearing that it’s the young drivers that must be kept off the roads. They account for an excessive amount of the insurance claims. people ask what can be done to prevent this, heck, even the government are following the voters on this. Don’t they realise, they have legislated the youngsters off the road. How? the cost of insurance. Yep, the insurance companies have screwed us over on this one, and the government are happy for them to do it. Have you ever tried to insure a young driver? When I was a wannabee driver, I used to drive my dads car around, getting all the experience I could. We would go through the L plate attachment ceremony and we’d be off. My parents would have added me to their insurance for a few quid and I was away. Not so anymore. I drive a small Colt and expected that I’d make a phone call just like my parents did for me and my laddo would be in business. I fell off my chair when I was quoted £1790.00 just to add him to MY existing policy as a named driver. And I thought house prices were expensive? Buying the car used to be the biggest hurdle. Stiff that, it’s now about buying insurance. Add your comment |
