Motocross meeting: Norley near Delamere Forest, Cheshire.

This was my second visit to a motocross event. Quite a big course and plenty for the riders and spectators. I’m finding that more and more the dreaded health and safety have arrived and legislated photographers further away from the track. It’s no longer enough to have a long lens on the camera as the second fence will always appear in your images unless you are in the riders face. It seems the event photographers have a big advantage here as they can traverse the barriers and get beyond the not so scenic ropes for those clear shots.

I’m not having a gripe at their unfettered access, more that I haven’t figured out how to shoot decent images of riders because of all the crap in the way. Next time if I’m asked if I’m from such and such a magazine, ill wing it and say yes. Maybe I just need the balls to pull it off?
A scan of the course during the practices allowed me to evaluate the shooting conditions. The clearest places were at the starting line and on only one of the turns. Opinion: Great for riders and spectators. Crap for photographers (well those without passes). So these images are relegate to my snaps area. No treatment or cropping.

Note to self: Next time stand upwind of the dust clouds, my lenses now have the nice sound of sand grinding in the gears when twisting the zoom ring; - Doh!.
